Abstract

This research examines the application of the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) concept in the city center of Tondano and its correlation with public safety perception. The approach used is a mixed-methods design, with quantitative data collected through questionnaires from public space users and qualitative data through observation and interviews. Variables analyzed include natural surveillance, access control, territorial reinforcement, maintenance, and cultural identity, with safety perception as a mediating variable. Findings indicate that CPTED implementation is still partial, but natural surveillance has the strongest influence on feelings of safety. The integration of Minahasan cultural values is proven to enhance a sense of belonging and comfort in public spaces. This study affirms the importance of CPTED based on local wisdom to improve the safety and utilization of public spaces.
