Abstract

This study aims to analyze the performance of BeCool solar reflective paint applied to the roof envelope of Baburrahmah Mosque in Gorontalo City on indoor thermal comfort. The research employed an experimental quantitative method grounded in building thermal theory and the SNI 03-6572-2001 thermal comfort standard. Data were collected through field measurements using the Elitech GSP-6, Elitech RC-4, and Digital Anemometer PM6252A over three consecutive days before and after the application of solar reflective paint. Measured variables included roof surface temperature, outdoor air temperature, indoor air temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed. Results indicate that applying BeCool (SRI 106) to the zinc roof reduced the average roof surface temperature by 1.3°C, outdoor air temperature by 1.4°C, and indoor air temperature by 0.8°C. Despite consistent temperature reductions, the post-application average indoor temperature of 29.3°C still exceeded the optimal comfort zone limit of SNI 03-6572-2001. This study concludes that solar reflective paint positively affects the thermal conditions of mosque buildings, but must be combined with other passive strategies such as natural ventilation optimization and facade shading to achieve optimal thermal comfort in tropical climates.
