PRESERVASI TRANSFORMATIF KARAKTERISTIK FISIK RUMAH PAK RUKHMIN TONIODE DI DESA BUBEYA, SUWAWA, BONEBOLANGO

Abstract

This study aims to identify the physical characteristics and structural condition of Mr. Rukhmin Toniode’s colonial house in Bubeya Village, Suwawa Subdistrict, Bone Bolango Regency, and to formulate a concept for transformative preservation through an adaptive reuse approach. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using field observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The research findings identified seven main physical characteristics of the building: a shield-shaped roof, a front veranda, cross-ventilation, large window openings, elevated foundations, red brick walls, and a cement floor—all of which reflect the adaptation of colonial architecture to the tropical climate. The building’s condition reveals severe damage to the roof structure, walls, and part of the foundation; however, its primary architectural features can still be preserved. Based on the research findings, a concept of transformative preservation is proposed through the repurposing of the building into the Gorontalo Cultural and Creative House without altering its main form, facade, or historical value. This approach is expected to support the preservation of colonial architectural heritage while enhancing the building’s social, educational, cultural, and economic functions.
